THE BITTER TRUTHS

I have been wanting to start something like the Bitter Truth for years now. I love coffee, and I knew I wanted to get into the industry in some form for a while, but just shipping out beans or starting a coffee shop didn’t completely scratch the itch that I was looking for.

I have learned a lot about life throughout my career. I love basketball, and I love to compete, but what the game as taught me reaches far beyond the lines in which it is played. I have learned and grown as a person more than I could have ever imagined, all because of the silly game I decided to start playing 20 years ago. I’ve gained more important skills than learning how to make a layup or dribble with my left hand, and I feel as though this is the perfect vessel to share them with the world.

Ultimately, at the core of it all, this is what the Bitter Truth is all about: A lifestyle, a way of life, a frame of mind that opened the door for me to act, think, and live clearer than I had ever before. And as the name suggests, the truth isn’t always sweet. A good life is full of honest self-reflection, hard and long looks in the mirror, and tough decisions that require serious amounts of effort. The Bitter Truth is about recognizing where and who you are, right at this current moment. It means understanding what needs to be done and the decisions that need to be made in order to get from where you are, to where you want to be. Then doing them. Simple as that. And it won’t always be easy, won’t always be fun, and can feel extremely uncomfortable, but thats where the growth lies.

Over the course of the lifetime of this company, we will be sending to you the “Bitter Truths” that I have found helpful over the course of my career and my life. Hopefully they will feel honest and authentic, and maybe you can find a little bit of yourself in each one. They have helped me grow along the way and change into someone who is closer to the version of the person that I want to become, and I think they could help you too.

At the end of the day, I know you’ll like our coffee. It’s fantastic. The people involved in choosing, importing, and roasting it took great care to make sure it is incredible. But more importantly, these Bitter Truths represent what the company stands for. We’re going to get you great coffee, but we are committed to a way of life that has changed the way that I live. Success, in my eyes, comes when this company plays a tiny part in a decision you make to live a more inspired, authentic, and purposeful life.
